My Background
Here’s the very abbreviated version!…..
I love learning and teaching. That’s it!!
….O.k, there is a bit more to my story but I have tried to condense it down for you because if you are anything like me your time is valuable….
For starters, I have had the good fortune to travel extensively from a young age. My parents instilled a passion of travel in me and I am doing the same with my family. The education that is provided by seeing other places is so valuable and can’t be learnt in a classroom.
Before the internet came along nursing was a good choice in career back then to aid my travelling bug. With the aid of the internet so many people can work from anywhere these days. (I sound a bit old! lol).
Nursing also provided stability, I knew I would never be out of a job, nurses were always needed.
But a big reason I chose Nursing was because I loved Human Biology, the way the body works fascinates me and I actually did enjoy helping people and educating people so they could be in a healthier state.
As a nurse I tended to work with my gut instinct without realising it or verbalising it. There’s no scientific basis for that way of working ;). I’ve come to realise these days that our gut instincts or intuition is something we need to listen to far more and to trust in it.
I have experience in a wide array of areas both in the hospital setting and the community setting. I worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Continence, Wounds and Stomas before moving away to the remoteness of the Pilbara followed by the Kimberley.
The last place I thought I would ever work was in the world of academia, I never considered myself the academic type but that’s exactly where I ended up!
I have worked in my home town of Perth, in the U.K, country towns and now I am living and working in the remote and beautiful town of Broome.
My approach is holistic which can be difficult to achieve in the medical model of care, for a number of reasons. We aren’t just a body part to focus on and try and fix, we are an entity with everything linking…Mind, Body, Spirit.
These days, more than ever, I want to assist with Wellness to prevent sickness, to help with chemical free living where possible to reduce the toxic burden on the body, which impacts our physical and mental health and assist people to healthily live longer.
Entrepreneur life and Motherhood
I knew from a young age that I wanted to have my own business but back then I had no idea in what and had no idea how Nursing was ever going to allow me to do that.
I completed a fashion design course after returning from the U.K (creating clothes was a love I had had since high school) and thought I would have my own business that way (which I did for a bit after completing the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme course). But supporting my husband to achieve his dream of becoming a Paramedic put that idea on hold. I would never change that though because seeing him put his uniform on every day and wanting to go to work makes all of that time, effort, heartache, frustration and joy all worthwhile.
Then motherhood came along. I had always wanted to be a Mum. It wasn’t an easy path but I’m not sure anything worthwhile ever is, but thankfully I ended up with my 3 boys that I totally adore. With motherhood and time off work came the idea that I wasn’t helping to contribute to the family financially and it was difficult to come to terms with considering I had been working since I was 14.
I am eternally grateful to have wonderful husband and 3 beautiful boys. They support me and love me even if they don’t really understand what I do as an entrepreneur. That’s o.k, a lot of people don’t.
Becoming a Mum, for a lot of women, is often a time where we stop and reflect with what we really want out of our lives and what direction we want to take. Quite often we fall into a career at a young age and then realise once we stop to have children that it really wasn’t following our dreams or purpose in life.
I found my maternity leave was a great time for me to reflect and find my purpose. It wasn’t a quick find though and it took some digging, reflection and confronting myself.
So…the journey began we packed up and moved thousands of kilometres away from my family and support network. Everything I have done has led me to here.
I started with direct selling a product I loved and used (and still do) because going back to shift work wasn’t feasible with a young family and a shift working husband. It gave me a social outlet and an income.
Then I progressed into the world of Network Marketing. I highly recommend this industry because in most instances they are fantastic products but more importantly it teaches people personal growth and professional development for free. The lessons learnt can be transferred to all areas of your life. It definitely helped in my J.O.B in so many ways. It’s something that can be done from home with the help of technology and you can work around the family. Just do your due diligence.
I have since become and advocate with a start up company for a few reasons. I personally knew the founders and wholeheartedly trusted their beliefs and purpose. It is a hybrid business model like no other I have seen, it is ALL about health, wellness and education, transparency, and it supports smaller businesses that are trying to reduce the toxic burden to our bodies and the environment. Feel free to have a look see for yourself.
Through this a have been able to surround myself with like-minded people, learn from some fantastic mentors, read more books since I started this journey than I had ever read in my life, EVER! became an author (see below), developed my marketing skills to a level that sometimes I wonder whether what came out of my mouth to teach people was even me! I have developed Internet Marketing skills from an amazing business that has the same values as me and the content is incredibly comprehensive that even novices like me can learn from it. I have even developed the skills to build my own WordPress website.
Bare in mind I grew up and went through university WITHOUT computers. I come from a world of handwriting assignments and searching on a Microfiche. Google wasn’t even a word.
Since having my boys I have not only grown as a person, my modern day business skills have grown exponentially all while living literally thousands of kilometres away from my family and support network. But I’m guessing it is where I needed to be to do all of that and to make me stronger.
Was it always easy? Hell NO! It has been a roller coaster ride and as much as I dislike roller coasters I am grateful to be on this one.
The icing on the cake for me was to complete my certification as a Creatrix® Transformologist®. So many female entrepreneurs are held back by their own limiting beliefs making them feel stuck. I know from personal experience ;). Nothing I have read or seminars I have attended have given me that same, lasting breakthroughs like Creatrix® has. You can see for yourself.
Being a Mum AND and entrepreneur isn’t easy but it is worthwhile. A huge challenge for me was trying to juggle it all and not feel like I was drowning, inadequate, not enough. I felt like all I was doing was yelling at my boys and then I would want to run into my room and cry because I knew I was over reacting and felt guilty. I promised I wouldn’t respond like that the next time, which of course I seemed to do the exact same thing again. I even wrote a goal to not be a “yelling Mum”. I was embarrassed by it and I was worried how it would affect the boys as they grew up. That was something I transformed with Creatrix®.
Do I still have to discipline my boys? Of course! They are still learning, testing boundaries, have determination BUT I don’t have a massive emotional charge that goes with it. I am firm but not “hysterical”. That alone has changed my life and my business.
So now I have found that my life purpose is to teach and mentor women on how to find THIER life purpose, market themselves or their business using social media, understand their own health and wellbeing AND break through the blocks that are holding them back from being their True Self.
It’s my holistic approach to Entrepreneurship.
